IT ALL STARTED WITH MICAYA...

In 1993, San Francisco hip hop dance instructor, Micaya began producing high energy, grassroots, sold-out hip-hop dance shows in the heart of San Francisco’s Mission District. Those shows led up to the creation of the First Annual San Francisco Hip Hop DanceFest in 1999. Now in its 21st year, the SFIHHDF has put San Francisco on the map as a place to see incredible hip hop dance.

With over 20 years experience, Micaya is a dance instructor, choreographer and producer extraordinaire. Formally trained in many diverse dance forms, she incorporates a wide range of diversity in her choreography and teaching styles. Micaya’s classes are loved by students of all ages and backgrounds for to her exceptional teaching skills and the non-intimidating atmosphere she creates. In 2012, she was awarded “Best Dance Teacher” by the SF Bay Guardian Readers Poll.

“It takes a festival like Micaya’s to show us – and challenge us to reconsider just how diverse, amorphous and all-embracing hip hop can now be.”
